Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning has announced the entry into force of a new government measure reducing the price of petrol and diesel by 7.5 cents per litre (including tax).

Following the Council of Government's approval on 7 April 2022 of the Draft Grand-Ducal Regulation amending a 2010 amended regulation fixing the rates applicable to autonomous excise duties on energy products, the consumer prices of on-road diesel and unleaded petrol will drop by 7.5 cents per litre from Wednesday 13 April 2022. This price drop will be reflected directly in the prices displayed at the pump and will remain applicable until 31 July 2022. For a full 50 litres, the saving will correspond to €3.75.

The consumer prices of diesel for industrial and commercial use, as well as for diesel used for agricultural and horticultural work, in fish farming and forestry, will fall by 7.5 cents per litre as soon as the Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg's Parliament) adopts the corresponding bill. This measure will also remain in effect until 31 July 2022.

For heating oil, this same reduction will apply as soon as the same bill comes into force, but will remain in effect until 31 December 2022.

These measures are part of the "Solidaritéitspak" (solidarity package), agreed between the Luxembourg Government, the UEL business lobby and the LCGB and CGFP unions at the end of March 2022. Through this package of measures, the government has undertaken to take the necessary measures to lower the consumer prices of petrol, diesel and heating oil.

As of Wednesday 13 April 2022, Super Unleaded 95 and Super Unleaded 98 petrol prices (including tax) stand at €1.632 and €1.726 per litre respectively. The price of diesel (including tax) stands at €1.643 per litre.
