The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two individuals suffered serious injuries in a road accident on the A1 motorway on Monday evening.

At around 17:55 on Monday, a rear-end collision occurred on the A1 between Wasserbillig and Mertert, in the direction of Luxembourg. According to initial findings, a lorry driver drove into the rear of another lorry at the tail end of a traffic jam. The latter was then pushed into the vehicle in front (a third lorry).

Two individuals (a driver and a passenger) suffered serious injuries and had to be rescued from one of the lorries. After receiving first aid on site, they were taken to hospital for further treatment.

The motorway was closed off while a rescue helicopter landed and for the duration of clearing operations, which lasted until around 05:00 on Tuesday morning.

Among the passengers in the other two lorries, one driver was slightly injured.

An accident report was drawn up.
