The Grand Ducal Police have reported that a serious traffic accident between a motorcycle and a van occurred on the A1 in southern Luxembourg on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 14:30 on Wednesday, there was a traffic accident on the section between the Cents tunnel and the Sandweiler exit in the direction of Luxembourg. A motorcyclist in the right lane collided with a delivery van in the fast lane and fell off his / her motorcycle as a result.
After receiving initial medical care at the scene of the accident, the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Traffic was disrupted.
The Grand Ducal Police added that, just moments later, there there was a rear-end collision between two cars on the opposite side of the motorway in the direction of Germany. A driver had been startled by the first accident and caused this second crash, which resulted in material damage. A toddler was taken to the children's hospital for a medical check-up, but had not suffered any injuries in the accident.
The overtaking lane was blocked following this accident. Traffic was re-directed via the right lane, although the road remained congested.
