Dylan Pereira Retains Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup Lead After 3rd at Silverstone

Luxembourg's Dylan Pereira finished 3rd in Sunday's Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race at Silverstone in the UK to keep him in the lead of the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup series.

Last week, the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup setup failed to meet the demands of the BWT Lechner Racing driver; however, the team spent these intervening days analysing data from the last race and working on settings and, in this race, Dylan Pereira was much more comfortable with his car.

For the fifth race of the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, commemorating the 70th anniversary of Formula 1, the Luxembourger aimed to fight for one of the top places and continue at the head of the championship. Mission accomplished.

In free practice on Friday, Dylan Pereira started with the fastest time. However, the session was interrupted due to a breakdown of a Porsche leaving the pits. After the start, the Luxembourg driver took the opportunity to try out different settings and trajectories, ending with good prospects for the timed practice.

Qualifying took place on Saturday, with the sun soaring and high temperatures on the tar. With 40C on the asphalt, tyre pressure was an essential parameter. Dylan Pereira started by trying to set some good lap times, but quickly returned to his pit to make some changes to the car. At the end of the session, he had a very good lap, even if he made a small error in the last sector, which caused him to lose three tenths of a second. Despite this, he obtained the 4th fastest time in the timed practice, to start 4th.

During the race, the Luxembourger kept his place at the start, but an accident on the first lap led to the entry of the safety car. On the restart, Dylan Pereira once again made an excellent overtaking move and jumped to 3rd position, and shortly afterwards recorded the fastest lap of the race. He reached the end of the race right behind the first two, passing the chequered flag just one second behind the winner.

Dylan Pereira therefore took his fourth championship podium in five races and has maintains his leadership in the 2020 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. He returns to competition next week-end for the sixth race of the series, in Barcelona, ​​which opens the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix.
