Luxembourg’s Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, together with a non-profit organisation, Sécurité Routière Luxembourg Asbl (Luxembourg Road Safety), have signed a new agreement to continue cooperation on road safety initiatives in the Grand Duchy.

Signed by Luxembourg’s Minister of Mobility and Public Works, Yuriko Backes, and Luxembourg Road Safety President, Paul Hammelmann, on Friday 27 February 2026, the agreement aims to support the continuation of prevention campaigns and public awareness activities promoting responsible behaviour among road users.

Luxembourg Road Safety organisation develops and implements awareness initiatives and prevention campaigns carried out jointly with the ministry. Since 2009, the state has supported the association through an agreement that defines its role and its missions in the public interest, the ministry noted.

According to the ministry, the annual contribution will increase from €125,000 to €200,000 from 2026 to support the continuation of the association’s activities and strengthen its prevention and awareness initiatives.

Our shared commitment is based on a strong conviction: every accident is one accident too many, and every road victim is one victim too many. Strengthening road safety remains a constant priority that can only be achieved by acting together through collective mobilisation on a daily basis. At the heart of this effort, Sécurité routière ASBL plays an essential role and this new agreement ensures the continuity and consolidation of valuable cooperation between the ministry and the association, in the service of safer roads for everyone in line with the international ‘Vision Zero’ strategy,” said Minister Backes.

Paul Hammelmann thanked Minister Backes and stressed: “This increase in the subsidy sends a strong signal for the continuation of the collaboration between the ministry and Sécurité routière. It also reflects Minister Yuriko Backes’ confidence in our expertise and commitment to safer roads.”
