On Friday 6 May 2022, Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, together with Marc Widong, Director of the Fonds Kirchberg, inaugurated the Serra interchange along with its shops.

Luxembourg City represents the main economic centre of the Grand Duchy with its primordial peripheral districts. Located in the middle of the suburban belt, Luxembourg-Kirchberg is one of the main destinations in the entire territory of the capital. As such, the Fonds Kirchberg decided to take up the challenge of building a new entrance to Luxembourg City through this pilot project, which began in 2016. In its unique role as a multimodal interchange, it accommodates all means of transport, including the tram, buses, bicycles and cars.

As part of urban mobility planning and in view of demographic forecasts, it is deemed essential to create effective solutions so that all travellers have the choice between several modes of urban transport in order to make transit to and through the city centre more beneficial for all stakeholders. The interconnection offered by the Serra interchange will thus serve as a model for mobility on a national scale.

The entire construction is marked by a specific architecture designed by the Steinmetz De Meyer architects office. Offices and shops have been integrated in the project for aesthetic reasons but also in order to improve the quality of life.

The newly erected site features vegetation, benches for rest and a drinking water fountain. An mBox and a vel'OH electric bicycle rental station are available to travellers wishing to continue their journey with another means of urban transport. In addition, an S-Bank automatic teller machine (ATM), a Post Luxembourg PackUp station and public toilets are available.

The multidimensional concept is completed by two catering outlets and their terraces: Maison Kaempff-Kohler and the new Subway Fresh Forward restaurant.

The overall cost of the construction works amounts to €72,050,000.
