As part of its Green Relaunch plan and the national economic recovery plan "Neistart Lëtzebuerg", Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable development has decided to increase subsidies for bicycles and pedelecs by 100%.

The measure aims to support the positive dynamics of recent months, with very encouraging figures for soft mobility in Luxembourg, especially in terms of bicycle use.

With the twofold objective of considerably improving direct aid to consumers and giving a boost to soft mobility businesses, the subsidies for the purchase of bicycles and pedelecs as well as for quadricycles, motorcycles and electric mopeds will be doubled for all purchases from 11 May 2020 (day of resumption of trade) until the end of the first quarter of 2021.

The increase in the “Clever Fueren” subsidy will be temporary until 31 March 2021, in particular with a view to stimulating demand in the short term and thus benefiting the sectors concerned from the economic recovery. This new financial aid is now 50% of the purchase price for bikes up to €600.

In addition to the "Clever Wunnen" financial aid, presented last week, and the new "Clever Fueren" subsidies, a whole range of measures from the Green Relaunch plan will be presented in the coming weeks. These aim to accelerate the ecological transition of the economy towards soft mobility, energy efficiency and responsible consumption.

Financial aid to come will more specifically aim to encourage environmental protection, electromobility and investment in renewable energies.

All these measures remain subject to the finalisation of legislative and regulatory procedures.
