On Monday morning, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Mobility and Public Works, François Bausch, presented the results of the contributions of Luxembourg's municipalities to the redevelopment of the RGTR, the country's regional bus network.

After four years of close collaboration with municipalities and citizens, the RGTR network has undergone a complete make-over. 534 suggestions from 81 out of 102 municipalities contributed to the modification and / or addition of RGTR lines to the new planned network. The redevelopment of the RGTR network is expected to result in better service on weekends and in the evenings and a general acceleration of buses in order to increase their attractiveness.

The current RGTR network (excluding school lines) has 180 bus lines serving 725 different routes. Before consulting the municipalities, the planned network consisted of 158 lines. Based on suggestions from the municipalities, 115 of these lines were modified and 21 were added, bringing the new total to 179.

The adapted network will offer bus journeys seven days a week from 05:00 until 23:00, thus representing a 25% increase in mileage. As regards Sundays, the mileage offer will be increased by 380% compared to the current network.

In addition, bus lines will connect the major localities directly, without passing through the City of Luxembourg.

All of these indicated changes are expected to be fully implemented by September 2021.

During his speech, François Bausch stated: "Once the redevelopment is complete, Luxembourg will have one of the densest and most comprehensive national bus networks in Europe".
