The Automobile Club Luxembourg (ACL) has reached 179,787 members, its activity report for 2017 has shown.
As of 31 December 2017, the ACL had 179,787 members, an increase of 1.73% from the previous year. Moreover, from a financial point of view, the year 2017 was a positive one for the ACL, which guarantees unchanged contributions for its members in 2019.
Regarding the development of road and home assistance services, the ACL reached 45,251 interventions (+ 1.9%) in Luxembourg (+ 1.26%) and wider Europe (+ 8.47%). The on-site repair rate for roadside repairs reached 81% in 2017, which equates to 8 breakdowns. Furthermore, in 2017, the ACL expanded its home assistance service for its members by integrating a new "Home Assistance" offer that benefits the member in case of breakdown at home from 24/7 assistance from a heating and sanitary installer, an electrician or a locksmith.
In 2017, the ACL's organised and accompanied tours attracted no less than 1,213 people, whilst the club also showed its political engagement. For instance, the ACL participated in various working groups active within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Infrastructure, the Roads Administration, the Road Safety and through its representation in the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The club also took a position on various mobility policy issues concerning mobility in Luxembourg, costs, infrastructure and road safety, namely showing its opposition to the idea that the motorist should finance new policies. This includes taxes or travel bans, which the ACL considered detrimental to low-income households. The ACL therefore suggested solutions based on a "mobility budget" to encourage more multi-modality and shared mobility.
Last year was also an important time for ACL awareness campaigns, such as the organisation of the contest "Drive safe - Stay awake" as part of the Young ACL programme as well as the awareness campaign for safe holidays in collaboration with the police and the "Save 3,500 lives per day" and "#ParkYourPhone" campaigns. The ACL also organised training by specialists in the field of electric and hybrid cars, for example for firefighters from the Luxembourg City professional fire brigade.
