The Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security has published its weekly retrospective report on the evolution of the main acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and whooping cough.

During week 49, from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 December 2024, the number of positive SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) cases decreased from 84 to 76 cases, a drop of 10% compared to the previous week. However, the viral concentration detected in wastewater showed a slight increase.

The latest available sequencing data revealed that the KP.3 variant remained predominant in October 2024.

The number of influenza (flu) cases reported by laboratories has increased from 114 to 189 cases, an increase of 66% compared to the previous week. During the last four weeks, influenza A represented 80% of cases and influenza B represented 20% of cases.

The number of RSV cases increased from 122 to 179 cases, a rise of 47% compared to the previous week.

The number of whooping cough cases remains low with just one case being recorded in week 49. There were no cases of whooping cough recorded the previous week.
