On Wednesday 21 August 2024, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Viticulture provided an update on the spread of bluetongue (BTV serotype 3) in Luxembourg.
With regard to the spread of bluetongue (BTV serotype 3) in Luxembourg, the reference laboratory confirmed that 339 animals (236 cattle, 99 sheep and four goats) have tested positive for bluetongue since 1 August 2024. The virus has been detected on 180 farms.
From 13 to 20 August 2024, a further 163 animals tested positive for bluetongue, and the virus was found on 79 additional farms. ALVA emphasised that livestock owners should report immediately if they notice increased mortality in their herd.
