According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security, a total of 257 cases of COVID-19 were recorded throughout the Grand Duchy during week 46, i.e. between 13 - 19 November 2023.
The ministry publishes a weekly retrospective which provides a summary of the evolution of acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The monitoring noticed that there was a 12% decrease in COVID-19 cases (down from 294 cases the previous week). Also, the positivity rate decreased to 21% compared to 24% the previous week. However, the viral concentration detected in wastewater is increasing. The latest available sequencing data shows a preponderance of the EG.5.1 variant (38.7%).
Concerning the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the monitoring revealed an acceleration of the circulation of RSV. The number of cases reported by laboratories rose from 40 to 55 over one week (up 37.5%).
And for influenza, while there was an increase in the number of flu cases detected, flu circulation remains at a relatively low level. During the week of 13-19 November, the number of cases reported by laboratories increased to 24 cases compared to 14 cases the previous week, an increase of 71%.
The above largely overlap with LNS sentinel surveillance which indicates increased circulation especially of RSV, rhinovirus, adenovirus and SARS-CoV-2, but little influenza virus.
