On Friday 7 January 2022, the Luxembourg cabinet met to discuss a range of issues, including some relating directly and indirectly to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Amongst the issues was that of mandatory vaccinations: in this context, the cabinet discussed preparing for a debate to be held in parliament (Chamber of Deputies) and agreed to set up a working group whose mission will be to provide scientific advice on pressing medical reasons in favour of mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations, taking into account the evolution of the pandemic against the background of the propagation of the Omicron variant.
This ad hoc group will be made up of the following experts:
- Dr. Vic ARENDT, National Service of Infectious Diseases;
- Prof. Claude P. MULLER, Luxembourg Institute of Health
- Dr. Gérard SCHOCKMEL, Doctor specialising in infectious diseases, Robert Schuman Hospitals
- Dr. Thérèse STAUB, National Service for Infectious Diseases; and
- Prof. Dr. Paul WILMES, Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine, University of Luxembourg.
Likewise, a list is to be prepared of guiding questions for the consultation debate in the Chamber of Deputies and covering the different aspects of mandatory vaccination. This list will also be sent to various experts and stakeholders in the Grand Duchy in order to incorporate the inputs of an informed public debate into the preparation of the consultation debate in the Chamber of Deputies.
