Luxembourg's Ministry of the Interior has announced that almost half of the country's 102 municipalities have accepted to date the government's offer of free rapid antigen tests available to distribute to residents.

Following a letter sent out by the Ministry on Saturday, 34 municipalities had already gone to the logistics and technical support centre in Mersch by Monday afternoon to collect around 77,820 rapid antigen tests made available by the government. Fifteen additional municipalities set an appointment for the next few days. Some municipalities announced that they were already offering this service before the letter was issued.

Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, recalled that the initiative was aimed at helping municipalities offer free rapid antigen tests to residents, although they are not obliged to do so.

The Interior Minister thanked the municipalities which have chosen to participate in the certification of results following antigen tests. She described this as an act of solidarity from the public sector towards the hospitality sector, among others. She also thanked the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (Corps grand-ducal d'incendie et de secours - CGDIS) for their efforts and contribution in the distribution of rapid antigen tests. The CGDIS has prepared a total of 136,920 tests for distribution to the 102 municipalities of the Grand Duchy.
