Luxembourg's Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth have published details of the evolution of COVID-19 in Luxembourg schools between 22 - 28 March 2021.

The figures for students and teachers who tested positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as competence centres in specialised psychopedagogy, located across the Grand Duchy.

During the week of 22 to 28 March 2021:

• 325 positive cases corresponding to scenario 1 were counted in 85 primary schools, 42 secondary schools and three competence centres (scenario 1: pupil or teacher infected outside the school without there having been a spread of the virus at school).

• 51 cases corresponding to scenario 2 were observed in 14 primary schools, 17 secondary schools and three competence centers (scenario 2: maximum two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class).

• 36 cases corresponding to scenario 3 were identified in four primary schools and nine secondary schools (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class).

• Three scenarios 4 concern 22 students and a teacher this week (scenario 4: chain of infection within a school: several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases). They are detailed below.

Scenario 4 Cases

Brill School in Esch-sur-Alzette

During the week of 15 to 21 March (week 11), a first positive case was detected in one class, which was therefore suspended. Tests performed on all students in the class revealed five more positive cases during the week of 22-28 March (week 12).

Grand'Rue Wäschbieren School in Esch-sur-Alzette

During the relevant week (week 12), one teacher in a cycle 1 class tested positive. Screening tests carried out on 25 March identified seven more positive cases. The class was quarantined until 2 April, a day longer than usual. This decision was taken in order to avoid going back to class and unnecessary risk of spread before the start of the Easter holidays.

Lycée Aline Mayrisch and Lycée des Garçons

Eight students tested positive in a 1st grade class at Lycée Aline Mayrisch. Seven grade 1 students at the Lycée de Garçons Luxembourg tested positive; infections in this class are linked to an out-of-school source of infection.
