Luxembourg's Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, has announced that, in order to continue to control as much as possible the spread of COVID-19, the Ministry of Health, in addition to the Large Scale Testing at the national level, is organising, as a preventive measure, targeted tests by sector or according to the prevalence rate in some regions of the country.

The education sector had been called upon to be tested as part of the Large Scale Testing at the start of the school year in September 2020, then after the Christmas holidays in January 2021. After the Carnival holiday, all students in other schools particularly affected by the virus have been tested. Finally, a pilot phase of the use of rapid self-tests is currently underway in ten schools. At these special times, testing is being carried out by mobile teams in classrooms affected by a positive case for COVID-19.

Due to the higher prevalence in the general population of the region, the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, has now chosen to assess the situation in the five primary schools, the seven relay houses in the municipality of Differdange, as well as the annex to the Centre for Intellectual Development and the International School of Differdange & Esch-sur-Alzette, including its annex in Esch.

The tests are being carried out between 29 March and 2 April 2021 in establishments by Large Scale Testing mobile teams.

All children from 4 to 12 years old, as well as the staff of primary schools and relay houses are concerned, i.e. 1,086 adults and 3,931 children.
