Following the decision to suspend the use of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from a particular batch last week, Luxembourg's Ministry of State and the Ministry of Health have announced the temporary suspension of all vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine.
The decision also follows that of several European countries, including France and Germany, to temporarily hald vaccination with this vaccine.
This is a precautionary measure, pending the results of analyses from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), relating to reports of blood clots among people vaccinated with the vaccine.
Vaccinations with the AstraZeneca vaccine will be suspended in Luxembourg until the assessment by the EMA's safety committee (Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee - PRAC) is completed. This decision concerns both initial and follow-up vaccinations. The EMA evaluation is expected later this week.
In a press release issued on Monday, the EMA maintained that the benefits of AstraZeneca's vaccine in preventing COVID-19 appear to outweigh the risks of side effects.
