308 New COVID-19 Cases Identified in Luxembourg Schools Last Week

Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has published an overview of the COVID-19 situation in Luxembourg schools for the week of 1 to 7 March 2021.

The figures for students and teachers who tested positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and skills centres located in Luxembourg.

During the week of 1 to 7 March, a total of 308 new cases were identified, including:

- 279 positive cases corresponding to scenario 1 in 81 primary schools, 62 secondary schools and one skills centre (scenario 1: a pupil or teacher infected outside the school without the virus having spread at school);

- 17 positive cases corresponding to scenario 2 in six primary schools and four secondary schools (scenario 2: maximum of two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);

- 8 positive cases corresponding to scenario 3 in two primary schools and one secondary school (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class);

- One scenario 4 concerning four individuals in one primary school (scenario 4: chain of infection within a school; several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases). This scenario 4 developed in a school in Beaufort (Beforter Buergfénkelcher), where a teacher had tested positive on 1 March 2021. Nine students were put in quarantine after having been in close contact with the teacher in question. Tests carried out on 2 and 3 March returned two positive results among the students. A third student who attended the same reception centre as the other students also tested positive. The three students come from three different classes; all three affected classes were put in quarantined until 10 March inclusive. The students were able to get tested from 9 March.

There was a slight decline in positive cases compared to the previous week (308 compared to 351 cases the week before).
