At a press conference on Thursday morning, Luxembourg's Minister of Health Paulette Lenert confirmed that the Grand Duchy has suspended its AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

The Health Minister stated that Luxembourg would place 4,800 out of a total of 16,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine on hold as a precautionary measure.

The move follows reports of serious blood clotting conditions among individuals who had received the jab.

Luxembourg is not the only European country to have temporarily suspended use of the vaccine; others such as Denmark, Norway, Austria, Italy, Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia have taken similar action.

Whilst the European Medicines Agency (EMA) maintained that there was no evidence at present that these issues (specifically those developed by two vaccinated individuals in Austria) were linked to the AstraZeneca vaccine, an investigation is ongoing.
