Seven Albert Wingert Primary Classes Placed in Quarantine

Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has announced that seven classes of Albert Wingert Primary School in Schifflange have been placed in quarantine.

On 26 January 2021, a staff member, who intervened in several classes but mainly those in "cycle 2", tested positive for COVID-19. This resulted in several cycle 2 classes and one cycle 4 class either being separated from other classes (scenario 1: a pupil or teacher infected outside the school without the virus having spread at school) or placed in quarantine (if the class already had another coronavirus case). That same week, two teachers also tested positive for the virus.

On 1 February 2021, the scenario 1 classes got tested at the school, revealing four more positive cases. Laboratory tests on those quarantined have so far identified a further eight positive cases.

Currently, three out of seven classes in cycle 2 are affected by COVID-19.

Given the large number of intracurricular contacts, the COVID-19 education steering committee has decided to quarantine all classes in cycle 2 at the primary school until 9 February 2021. In addition, as a precautionary measure, all students and staff from cycles 1, 3 and 4 who are still attending school will get tested by a mobile team today, Thursday 4 February 2021, on the school grounds.
