On Thursday 7 January 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 161 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 521 fatalities (four more deaths since Wednesday) resulting from the virus to date.
161 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Thursday from a total of 10,114 tests carried out the day before, representing 25.71 per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 1.59%. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.
104 people are in hospital with the virus, including 26 patients in intensive care. There are currently 2,884 active infections known, whilst a total of 44,187 people have recovered from the virus to date.
The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 141.14. One week ago this figure was 161.00 and two weeks ago it was 313.14.
The effective reproductive number in Luxembourg stands at 0.87.

Since 24 August 2020, the Ministry of Health's published figures only include resident infection numbers, as opposed to earlier figures which included both residents and non-residents (i.e. cross-border workers).
