On Tuesday 15 December 2020, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 349 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 418 fatalities (eight more deaths since Monday) resulting from the virus to date.
349 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Tuesday from a total of 11,201 tests carried out the day before, representing 55.74 per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 3.12%. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.
238 people are in hospital with the virus, including 48 patients in intensive care. There are 8,346 active infections known, whilst a total of 33,486 people have recovered from the virus to date.
The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) in cases remains unknown, as certain figures from last week have yet to be published / updated. The Ministry of Health confirmed last week that the unavailability of daily reports and detailed statistical data was due to technical issues.
The effective reproductive number in Luxembourg stands at 0.97.
Since 24 August 2020, the Ministry of Health's published figures only include resident infection numbers, as opposed to earlier figures which included both residents and non-residents (i.e. cross-border workers).
