Over the weekend, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 963 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 402 fatalities (ten more deaths since Friday) resulting from the virus to date.
517 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Saturday from a total of 12,690 tests carried out the day before, with a further 446 having tested positive on Sunday from 9,366 tests carried out the previous day. Sunday marked a new record high of daily cases. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.
The positivity rate on Sunday was 4.76%.
As of Sunday 13 December 2020, 225 people are in hospital with the virus, including 46 patients in intensive care.
As of Friday 11 December 2020, there were 8,685 active infections known, whilst a total of 31,678 people had recovered from the virus.
The effective reproductive number in Luxembourg is currently 1.03.
The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) in cases remains unknown, as the figures for Wednesday 9 December have yet to be published. Last week, the Ministry of Health reported that the unavailability of daily reports and detailed statistical data was due to technical issues.
Since 24 August 2020, the Ministry of Health's published figures only include resident infection numbers, as opposed to earlier figures which included both residents and non-residents (i.e. cross-border workers).
