The first day of the 44th meeting of the European Medicines Agencies Cooperation on Legal and Legislative Issues (EMACOLEX) took place in Luxembourg.
Based on 'Innovation for the Benefit of Patients: Safe, Effective and High Quality Medicines Quickly Accessible to all EU Citizens', the meeting welcomed lawyers of the national competent authorities of Member States and EFTA countries as well as observers from Canada, lawyers from the European Commission and the European Medicines Agency.
The meeting, held on 19 and 20 November 2015, will aim to collectively move certain ambitious cases forward and deal with issues relevant to pharmaceutical community legislation and case law.
"It is a real challenge to make safe, effective and high quality drugs quickly accessible to all citizens throughout the EU," remarked Luxembourg Minister of Health, Lydia Mutsch, during her opening speech. "It is true that speed does not always mean quality. However, innovation for the benefit of patients is a leitmotif to which I can easily adhere".
EMACOLEX serves as a discussion platform to reach agreement on common principles to be applied through the European network of drug regulatory authorities. The meeting also allows for an exchange of views with regards to legal issues and experiences related to national judicial affairs, particularly similar cases. Participants are also able to reflect and comment upon possible improvements in communal pharmaceutical law.
