The LCGB trade union released a statement today commenting on the closure of the Bettembourg wire saw production site of Luxembourg-based multinational steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal.
The site closure was announced by ArcelorMittal this morning, with the LCGB confirming that the agreements reached in the future plan of the steel industry in 2016 would be respected and applied to the situation.
The LCGB claimed that no dismissals were planned, with each employee of the Bettembourg branch of ArcelorMittal due to be relocated to another site within the Luxembourg steel industry in order to retain their salary.
The trade union went on to state that, upon its request, a working group would be established starting from next week to allow the reclassification of each one of the 65 employees according to individual abilities and experience. The LCGB claimed that its first priority was to ensure the employment and salary of each member of staff affected and stated it would be actively involved in monitoring the reclassification process.
