Multinational steel manufacturing corporation ArcelorMittal, headquartered in Luxembourg, has supplied 3,200 tonnes of new steel to a marine project in the Shetland Islands.
The steel grade AMLoCor© Blue 320 contribution will form part of a project to develop the main and anchor walls of Holmsgarth Quay at the Port of Lerwick in the Shetland Islands, after project contractor Tulloch Development selected ArcelorMittal as a collaborator.
The construction will involve 800 metres of deeper berthing and a greater working area for the fishing fleet and nearby fish market of the area. The project follows several similar, but smaller, ones which were performed at the same part two years previously.
"The techno-commercial approach of ArcelorMittal Sheet Piling, along with the strength of our product, was key in securing this win," commented Thierry Laux, CMO Sheet Piling, ArcelorMittal. "AMLoCor© started life in the lab at ArcelorMittal’s global R&D division, and we’re delighted that our largest shipment to-date is going towards an important project in such a unique location".
The Holmsgarth Quay shipment was sent from ArcelorMittal's Belval Mill 2 in Luxembourg, and was delivered in three installments starting in January 2015.
