The European Commission has given the green light for its Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (Chafea) to move from Luxembourg’s Cloche d’Or district to Brussels.

The relocation is scheduled for the start of 2021 and foresees the creation of a new organisation: the European Innovation Agency. The institution's 80 staff members will have the option of moving to Brussels and retaining their current job, requesting another position in Luxembourg or receiving unemployment benefits.

The announcement follows that of a reshuffling of EU priorities, according to Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari. The relocation of Chafea was reportedly due to a need for improved coordination.
