On Thursday 15 October 2026, the Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security published its weekly overview of the evolution of major acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), for the week of Monday 5 to Sunday 11 October 2026 (week 41).

Decrease in COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 cases

During week 41, the number of positive COVID-19 cases decreased from 138 to 126, down by 9% compared to the previous week. The number of cases remains lower than that recorded during the same period in previous years.

The viral concentration detected in wastewater also decreased.

The latest available sequencing data reveals that the XFG variant (65%) and the NB.1.8.1 variant (15%) are predominant.

Decrease in flu cases

During week 41, the number of flu cases reported by laboratories decreased from 51 to 29. The increase observed during week 40 therefore did not continue and appears to have been a temporary fluctuation rather than an upward trend.

The number of cases had remained stable between weeks 36 and 39, at levels comparable to those recorded during the same period in previous years.

During the last week, influenza A accounted for 96% of typed cases, while influenza B represented 4%.

Low level of RSV cases

The number of confirmed RSV cases remained low, with two cases reported during week 41, unchanged from the previous week.
