A new book, detailing the timeline of devotion to Our Lady of Luxembourg (Mary, Consoler of the Afflicted) in both the Grand Duchy and the USA, from the 1600s to 1800s, was recently released.
The 167-page, hardcover book, titled: A Mother Who Consoles - A Timeline of Devotion to Our Lady of Luxembourg in the Grand Duchy and the United States - Volume 1 (1600s - 1800s), has over 300 photographs and was written as part of the celebration for the upcoming 400th Jubilee of Our Lady of Luxembourg.
Authors Kevin Wester, owner/operator of Luxembourg Adventures with Kevin Wester tour company, and Mary Gellerup Bolich, Creative Writer and Editor, stated that they wrote the book to detail the devotion, over the years, to Our Lady of Luxembourg, as well as to encourage readers to develop a personal friendship with her as “A Mother Who Consoles”.
According to Kevin Wester, very little has been written in English about Our Lady of Luxembourg and it was the first time anyone combined the timelines of devotion to her both in Luxembourg and the USA.
Devotion to Our Lady of Luxembourg has been a hallmark of spirituality in Luxembourg since 1624. A significant number of Luxembourgers migrated to the United States in the mid-19th century and brought this devotion with them. Public images of Our Lady were enshrined in churches in Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska and Kentucky.
Volume One of the book describes the devotion from the 1600s to 1800s. Volume Two will focus on the years 1901 to 2025 and is expected to be published later in 2025.
The cover image of the book is that of the 2024 Luxembourg-American banner created by Luxembourg artist Jacques Schneider, that will be premiered in the closing procession of the 400th Jubilee Octave on Sunday 25 May 2025 in Luxembourg City.
A Mother Who Consoles: Volume 1 costs €49.52, excluding delivery, and can be purchased here.
