The City of Luxembourg (Ville de Luxembourg - VdL) has announced that the third edition of its "D'Stad liest" open-air library initative will run from Wednesday 16 August to Sunday 3 September 2023 in the courtyard next to Notre-Dame Cathedral in Luxembourg-Ville (Rue Notre Dame).

Organised as part of the "Summer in the City" programme, this initiative invites reading enthusiasts to read a book, magazine or newspaper in comfort under the large tree in the centre of the courtyard. In addition to a selection of books for all ages, several reading sessions and workshops are on the agenda.

Many of the sessions will take place in Luxembourgish, with some being held also in German, French and/or English.

Among the English-language activities are:

Dead or Alive? Slam (Géisskan Kollektiv co-production) on Wednesday 16 August @ 18:30: slammers will read various poems, in German, Luxembourgish, English and French, and the public will then have to guess if the authors are still alive or dead; suitable for audiences aged fourteen and up; 105 minutes

- Mike McQuaide will read his English-language book An American Still in Luxembourg on Thursday 17 August @ 18:30; suitable for all ages; one hour

Poetry Slam (Géisskan Kollektiv co-production) on Friday 18 August @ 18:30: slammers will present their poems, in German, Luxembourgish and English, before the public's favourites can compete in the final; suitable for audiences aged fourteen and up; 105 minutes

Poetry Slam (Géisskan Kollektiv co-production) on Friday 25 August @ 18:30: slammers will present their poems, in French, English and Luxembourgish, before the public's favourites can compete in the final; suitable for audiences aged fourteen and up; 105 minutes

Ikuko Ikeda Japan and Manga Workshop on Saturday 26 August @ 13:30 (first session) and @ 16:00 (second session): a drawing workshop, in French and English, suitable for audiences aged five and up; two hours per session (maximum ten participants per session

Between the Lines Book Discussion on Tuesday 29 August @ 18:30: a discussion, in English, around the book of the month Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola; suitable for audiences aged eighteen and up; 90 minutes (limited places, visit @betweenthelines on Instagram to reserve a spot)

Terry Adams will read poems and prose from After the break, in English, on Thursday 31 August @ 18:30; suitable for all ages; one hour

Andries van Wyk will read from The Comparison - Anton's Awesome Adventures, in English, on Saturday 2 September @ 14:30; suitable for audiences aged six and up; 25 minutes

- Between the Lines Book Chat and Swap on Saturday 2 September @ 15:00: a book discussion and book exchange, in English; suitable for all audiences; two hours

- "Dazwischen frei" live concert-reading, in German, Luxembourgish, English and French, on Saturday 2 September @ 18:30; suitable for all ages; one hour

The "D'Stad liest" (the city reads) outdoor library is open from 16 August to 3 September, Tuesdays to Sundays from 11:00 to 18:00 (plus some later activities).
