An anthology of Luxembourgish poetry, entitled 'Scrie-acum, scrie' ('So write, write'), was yesterday launched in the Romanian city of Sibiu, which in 2007 shared the rank of European Capital of Culture with Luxembourg.
This followed the presentation of the poetry anthology on 8 October to an audience at Cluj-Napoca, an ancient university town in the west of Romania, under the auspices of the Luxembourg Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The collection was produced with the financial support of the National Cultural Fund, in collaboration with the Literature Centre and under the patronage of the Embassy of the Grand Duchy in Romania. Comprised of the works of 26 authors, the anthology offers Luxembourgish poetry from its beginnings until present day.
Poets represented in the collection include Michel Lentz, Edmond de la Fontaine (Dicks), Michel Rodange, Nik Welter, Paul Palgen, Marcel Noppeney, Marcel Reuland, Tit Schroeder, Edmond Dune, Léopold Hoffmann, Anise Holtz, Roger Manderscheid, Liliane Wlech, Jean-Paul Jacobs, Lambert Schlechter, José Ensch, Pierre Joris, Jean Krier, Jean Portante, René Welter, Nico Helminger, Léon Rinaldetti, Pol Schmoetten, Guy Helminger, Tom Hengen and Fabienne Faust.
The texts were selected by Germaine Goetzinger, Daniela Lieb and Léon Rinaldetti and the originals in Luxembourgish, German, French and English have been accompanied by Romanian translation, carried out by Michael Astner, Philippe Blasen, Nora Chelaru and Monica Moroşanu.
H.E. Christian Biever, Luxembourg's ambassadory to Romania, has also provided a foreword for the anthology, highlighting its political text, whilst a preface by Philippe Blasen traces its historical and literary background.
