The Centre National de Littérature (CNL) in Mersch has announced that the Servais Foundation awarded the 2025 Prix Servais to Anne-Marie Reuter for her book M for Amnesia, published in 2024 by Black Fountain Press.

The Prix Servais has been awarded since 1992 to the most significant literary work published during the previous year. Endowed with €7,500, an independent jury proposes the winner each year, with the foundation bestowing the award.

This year’s jury was composed of Fabienne Gilbertz, Ludivine Jehin, Henning Marmulla, Diane Neises, Jérôme Netgen, Shari Schenten, Aimée Schultz and Tamara Sondag, with Sébastian Thiltges serving as chair.

M for Amnesia is set against the backdrop of a world marked by climate change, social segregation and biopolitical control and tells the story of Millie and Melissa, two women exploring their identity and the inexplicable bond they share. With scientific hubris pushing the boundaries of (post-)human optimisation by experimenting with the body and mind, both women ask themselves to what extent they can trust their memory.

The jury praised M for Amnesia for the relevance of its topics and noted: “Not only does the novel confront its readers with various political, ecological and social issues, it also points out the ethical dilemmas faced by humanity.”

In referencing the literary style of Anne-Marie Reuter’s writing, the jury noted: “The novel explores new forms of narrating the unnarratable, giving shape to the diffuse and grasping the unreliable by emphasising the fundamental role of language in defining the self.”

The CNL also confirmed that it will host the official Prix Servais ceremony and will announce the date of the event at a later time.
