Tania Brugnoni has been appointed Director of the National Museum of Archaeology, History and Art (MNAHA), while Régis Moes will take over as Deputy Director.
On Wednesday 25 September 2024, the Government Council (Cabinet) approved the proposal of Luxembourg’s Minister of Culture, Eric Thill, to submit to the Grand Duke Henri the nomination of Tania Brugnoni as Director of the MNAHA, effective 1 January 2025. Tania Brugnoni will succeed Michel Polfer, who will retire at the end of 2024.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal to appoint Régis Moes as Deputy Director.
Born in 1975, Tania Brugnoni has built up extensive experience within the Luxembourg socio-economic and cultural landscape. A graduate in art restoration and conservation, she also holds a certificate of specialisation in the history of decorative arts, museology and the art market, obtained from the Istituto per l'Arte e il Restauro in Florence, Italy. With seventeen years of experience as an independent restorer and curator, she has also worked as a cultural animator for the City of Differdange. Since 2013, Tania Brugnoni has held the position of director of the 1535° Creative Hub, where she has played a key role in its development, actively contributing to making it a success story in the field of creative innovation, noted the Ministry of Culture and the MNAHA.
Born in 1986, Régis Moes has a degree in History from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. He was also an international student at the École normale supérieure de Paris. Research fellow/curator at the MNAHA since 2014, he is currently responsible for the Contemporary Luxembourgish History and Applied, Decorative and Popular Arts sections. Author of numerous scientific publications, he is one of the scientific curators of the exhibition "The 1974 Revolution. From the Streets of Lisbon to Luxembourg", currently on display at the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart.
Minister Thill commented: "In a context where the museum world is in full transition, it is crucial that our museums and cultural institutions remain attractive by adopting contemporary approaches to captivate the public and make our common heritage accessible. I am convinced that the complementary expertise of Ms Brugnoni and Mr Moes will enable them to meet these challenges and consolidate the central place of the MNAHA in Luxembourg society. I wish them every success in their new roles. I would also like to express my deep gratitude to Michel Polfer for his loyal service to the MNAHA and wish him a fulfilling retirement."
The MNAHA is a State cultural institute. Counting 102 employees, its main mission is to study, preserve and promote national and international collections in the fields of archaeology, history, fine arts and applied arts. The MNAHA oversees three museum sites: the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart, the Musée Dräi Eechelen and the Réimervilla in Echternach. It also manages two research centres: the Luxembourg Fortress Documentation Centre and the Lëtzebuerger Konschtarchiv.
