On Monday 4 March 2024, Luxembourg’s Governing Council (Cabinet) adopted the seventeenth interim report on gender statistics within its decision-making bodies.
Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy and the Ministry for Gender Equality and Diversity noted that the Luxembourg government welcomed this encouraging assessment and Yuriko Backes, Luxembourg’s Minister for Gender Equality and Diversity, stressed that “we are moving in the right direction, but we must not let our guard down. The representation of women at all levels, including in decision-making positions in all sectors, is essential to achieving equality and crucial for more sustainable and resilient economic growth.”
Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, added that “balanced participation of women and men in political and economic decisions is a priority of the government. An egalitarian society, which should be a normality, has many societal and economic benefits. In this regard, I welcome the evolution of the representation of women within decision-making bodies, but it is essential to continue our efforts, both at the level of public establishments and private companies.”
On 31 December 2023, the total rate of women on the boards of directors of public establishments was 38.89%. During the first census dated 31 January 2015, the same rate was 27.41%.
The rate of women representing the State on these councils was 42.09% as of 31 December 2023 compared to 30.34% as of 31 January 2015.
According to the ministries, at the level of private law companies, the rate of women representing the State also continues to increase with 35.06% as of 31 December 2023 compared to 24.69% as of 31 January 2015.
