On Wednesday 20 December 2023, Luxembourg's Agency for Employment Development (ADEM) published details of employment and unemployment statistics, showing that there are currently 17,439 resident job-seekers, representing an unemployment rate of 5.7% at the end of November 2023, up slightly from 5.6% at the end of October.
The number of available resident job seekers registered with ADEM shows an increase of 2,817 people (or 19.3%) compared to November 2022. The most qualified job seekers (higher education graduates) as well as young people under 30 experience the largest increases.
At the level of professions/occupations, the most significant upward variations concern construction, communication, media and multimedia, the financial and real estate sector, industry, IT, accounting and commercial strategy.
The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, calculated by STATEC, is 5.7%.
The number of new registrations of job seekers is on the rise. A total of 2,810 residents registered with ADEM during the month of November 2023, an increase of 191 people or 7.3% compared to November 2022 (new registrations for this month include 92 registrations of beneficiaries temporary protection, refugees from Ukraine).
The number of resident job seekers benefiting from full unemployment benefit increased by 2,138 people or 29.2% over one year, to stand at 9,463. The number of beneficiaries of other measures stands at 4,212 and a slight decline compared to November 2022.
During the month of November 2023, employers declared 2,553 vacant positions to ADEM, which corresponds to a drop of 22% compared to November 2022. The total number of positions available at the end of the month stands at 7,338 as of 30 November 2023. The decline over one year is 40%. This decline mainly impacts the professions of business consulting, IT, transport and logistics, and construction.
