According to ADEM, Luxembourg's employment agency, the number of resident jobseekers available for work as of 31 March 2023 stood at 15,332; the unemployment rate reached 4.9%.
The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM at the end of March 2023 (i.e. 15,332 jobseekers) represented an increase of 756 people (+5.2%) over one year. The increase applied to all periods of unemployment, with the exception of people registered with ADEM for more than twelve months. Over one month, the number of resident jobseekers decreased by 318 people (-2%).
The unemployment rate, adjusted for seasonal variations, calculated by STATEC, thus stood at 4.9% at the end of March 2023 (a slight increase from 4.8% one month earlier).
The number of new jobseeker registrations was also on the rise: 2,526 residents registered with ADEM during the month of March 2023, an increase of 132 people (+5.5%) compared to March 2022. Among these figures were 82 registrations from beneficiaries of temporary protection (i.e. refugees from Ukraine).
The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefit increased by 931 people (+11.8%) over one year, to 8,838.
The number of beneficiaries of an employment measure stood at 4,265 and was below the level observed in March 2022 (a decrease of 160 people or 3.6%).
During the month of March 2023, employers declared 3,938 vacancies to ADEM, which corresponds to a decrease of 25.2% compared to March 2022. To put this decline into perspective, ADEM noted that March 2022 had been an exceptional month in terms of declared vacancies. Compared to the previous month, declared vacancies in March 2023 had increased (up from 3,389 in February 2023). The total number of available positions stood at 10,363 at the end of March 2023, i.e. a decrease of 13.6% over one year.
