In early April 2022, Bettina Steinbrügge took over the role of Director of the Musée d'art moderne Grand-Duc Jean, abbreviated to Mudam, in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.

Ms Steinbrügge replaces Suzanne Cotter who stepped down at the end of 2021 after four years as Mudam Director.

On Tuesday 5 April 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of Culture, Sam Tanson, met with Bettina Steinbrügge on the occasion of her entry into office as the new director of the museum.

According to the Ministry of Culture, Bettina Steinbrügge, with her deep knowledge of contemporary art and having directed many prestigious institutions, will know how to "develop and carry out innovative long-term projects to thus energise the life and influence of the museum".

Originally from the Osnabrück region in Germany, Ms Steinbrügge served as Director of the Kunstverein Hamburg art centre from 2014 to 2021. Previously, she held the position of Senior Curator and Head of the Contemporary Collection at the Belvedere museum in Vienna, Austria.

The Board of Directors of Mudam announced her appointment as director in November 2021.
