A report released jointly by STATEC and the Agence pour le développement de l'emploi (ADEM) on Monday has shown that the national unemployment rate remained stable in March 2016 at 6.5%.
Whilst the rate remained unchanged from February to March 2016, the number of available resident job seekers registered with ADEM fell 4.1% in a year to 17,405 people.
Having started in January 2015, the decline in the number of job seekers has now become more widespread across various vulnerable demographics, benefitting those with health problems (+3.5% YOY), older applicants aged 50 and over (-2.4%) and the long-term unemployed, characterised by those who have been registered for at least 12 months (-1.6%).
In March 2016, 1,700 people registered with ADEM, showing a 9.2% decrease compared with March 2015. The number of recipients receiving full unemployment benefits stood at 6,872, 584 people less than on 31 March 2015.
Little change was experienced in terms of people assigned to job schemes, although an increase was experienced from 5,493 in March 2015 to 5,503 at the end of March of this year. However, schemes incorporating a training component (such as adult learning, employment support contracts) did rise. In March 2016, employers reported 3,621 vacancies to ADEM.
