In order to overcome the shortage of skilled labour in the field of information and communications technologies (ICT), Luxembourg has lowered the salary threshold for certain professions in this sector with a view to obtaining a "European Blue Card".
As a result, businesses are induced to recruit more highly qualified third-country nationals wishing to settle in the Grand Duchy who have the profile of developers, programmer-analysts or IT project supervisors. Given the importance of the ICT sector as well as the large number of vacant posts in this sector, the Luxembourg Government can now grant the "European Blue Card" for persons who are paid a minimum of €57,556.80 per year, compared to €71,946 previously.
A national of a country outside the European Union or of an assimilated country (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland) can stay in Luxembourg as a highly skilled employee subject to his or her having a certain level of qualification and remuneration.
