On Saturday 27 June 2015, Banque Internationale à Luxembourg SA (BIL) will host its second annual BILjobdating event, in the innovative form of 'speed recruiting'.
BIL, Luxembourg's second biggest financial sector employer, has brought back the initiative which forms part of its corporate social responsibility drive and which offers each candidate the chance to meet face-to-face with a human resources counsellor.
The event's 2014 predecessor, which nearly 500 candidates attended, represented a first of its kind in the Luxembourg banking industry. With a dozen job positions offered on the day and some ten cases for review, the idea was deemed a success and an efficient accompaniment to the original recruitment process.
"Candidates have reasonable expectations in a world in which information is communicated instantly, and a quick decision is just as important for the Bank as it is for the candidate," said Head of Retail Banking, Christian Strasser, after the bank's first ever jobdating event.
The concept involves a three-phase procedure, each requiring a short interview. First, candidates meet on an individual basis with an allocated HR counsellor. They can then meet with specialists from a variety of positions within the bank. If they pass this stage successfully, candidates will then be received by a Senior Manager of the candidate's chosen field, and Karin Scholtes, Global Head of Human Resources at BIL.
"This form of recruitment is particularly interesting for the bank as it allows us to get right to the point with the candidates. It is a concept which speaks to young people, without excessive formality, without red tape, but with a focus on the essentials, in a pleasant and less formal environment than classic interviews," said Scholtes.
According to STATEC Luxembourg, unemployment in Luxembourg reached an all-time high of 7.30% in May of 2014 and fell to 6.90% in March of 2015. With the advent of initiatives such as BILjobdating, it is hoped that the statistic will be reduced even further.
"It was a very innovative and enriching experience to meet with an employer without having been sort based on the CV submitted. I was able to demonstrate my skills and motivations more easily than within the framework of a classic recruitment process," said Sylvia Wochner, candidate in 2014 and subsequent Relationship Manager in the Esch Belval branch of BIL.
This year, the bank is expecting a turnout of hundreds of both young graduates and experienced candidates searching for a new job. The event will be attended by Labour Minister Nicolas Schmit as well as representatives from the Agence de l'Emploi et de l'Economie Sociale et Solidaire (ADEM), the Centre de Documentation et d'Information sur l'Enseignement Supérieur (CEDIES) and the University of Luxembourg.
