On Friday 8 November 2024, the duo of Luxembourg guitarist Gilles Grethen and German pianist Sebastian Voltz are due to release their debut album Chroma.
This will be followed by a performance of the album on Saturday 16 November 2024 at the Bovary Jazz Club in Luxembourg-Weimerskirch (1 Rue de Laroche).
Featuring ten original compositions as well as an improvised piece, Chroma "juxtaposes intimate passages of delicate subtlety with moments of thick texture and intensity".
Gilles Grethen and Sebastian Voltz first met on the Saarland Jazz scene, and subsequently founded the Chroma project. They are described as putting spontaneity to the fore in their music, with "lively, free, melodic improvisations" showcasing "the virtuosic abilities of both musicians, as well as shedding a light on their Classical training and chamber music influences".
Piano and guitar ensembles can be particularly difficult to perform, but the duo have mastered these difficulties and complement each other effortlessly in their performances.
They have already released two singles from the album, in September and October: "Glare" and "Gretchen-Frage".
