On Thursday 14, Friday 15 and Saturday 16 March 2024, the Fondation Jeunes Scientifique Luxembourg (FJSL) will be organising the 53rd edition of the annual national "Jonk Fuerscher" competition at the Forum Geesseknäppchen.
Around 60 research and innovation projects will be unveiled to the competition jury and the public, all of which have been carried out over the past few months by over 80 talented young people from all over the country, aged between 11 and 21.
The themes of these projects cover the main fields of science and technology: physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, computing, environmental sciences, space sciences and social sciences.
Thanks to the generous support of numerous philanthropists, around twenty prizes will be awarded to this new class of young scientists. Most of them will go on to prestigious affiliated international competitions.
The afternoon of Saturday 16 March will be open to the public free of charge:
• From 13:00 to 16:00, open doors with stands and hands-on activities will immerse visitors in the brilliant work of the budding scientists.
• From 16:00 to 18:00, an official awards ceremony will bring the event to a close. In addition to a speech by Stéphanie Obertin – Minister of Research and Higher Education, an inspiring keynote speech will be given by Pit Vinandy (aka Cyberpiper, former Jonk Fuerscher of the class of 1980) on the synergy between art and science. Musical interludes by Luxembourg cellist Cyprien Keiser will also punctuate the ceremony.
All highlights of the competition will be broadcast live via livestream on the FJSL YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@fuerscher/streams). The jury sessions and competitors’ interviews will be on 14 March (13:00-18:00) and 15 March (9:30-11:30, 13:00-16:00), as well as the awards ceremony on 16 March (16:00-18:00).
Free underground parking is available at the Forum Geesseknäppchen (40 boulevard Pierre Dupong).
