On Friday 30 October 2026, the Union of Luxembourg Enterprises (UEL) reported that, following the second meeting of the Tripartite Monitoring Committee, it welcomed the measures decided by the Government in consultation with the social partners.
In a press release, the UEL said that in a difficult and volatile economic environment, these measures address businesses’ practical concerns and provide them with the predictability they need to continue their operations, safeguard employment and invest in the future.
The union added that discussions, informed by the latest analyses from STATEC, confirmed the persistence of economic difficulties and uncertainties linked to the international geopolitical context. For many sectors, the outlook has not improved since the June 2026 Tripartite meeting. Cost pressures continue to weaken businesses and reduce their room for manoeuvre.
In this context, the UEL said that extending the measures targeting energy prices under the June 2026 Resilienzpak (Resilience Package) is a responsible and essential response to help moderate inflation. These measures support household purchasing power while reducing the costs borne by businesses.
“Businesses need predictability to invest, innovate, provide training and recruit. The decisions taken jointly through social dialogue address this objective. Preserving competitiveness also means safeguarding employment and the strength of our social model,” said Marc Lauer, President of the UEL.
According to STATEC projections, extending the existing measures on gas, heating oil and electricity prices until the end of December 2027, and extending the measures on petrol and diesel prices until the end of February 2027, would result in a situation in which only two wage indexation adjustments would be triggered over a 24-month period.
“The announced measures send a positive signal to businesses, which need stability and predictability in this uncertain environment,” emphasised the UEL.
In view of the continued volatility of the international situation, the Government and the social partners decided, under this agreement, to convene the Tripartite Monitoring Committee no later than February 2027, and sooner if there is a significant deterioration in the economic or social situation.
The UEL said it remains committed to constructive social dialogue, which makes it possible to provide practical responses to the country's challenges and ensure the sustainability of its economic and social model.
