Artificial intelligence is evolving at an unprecedented pace, profoundly transforming the economy, industry and public services. Since the adoption of Luxembourg's first national artificial intelligence strategy in 2019, the technological and regulatory landscape has undergone a rapid and profound transformation. AI, in particular generative AI, has established itself as a major driver of innovation, redefining economic models, disrupting industrial dynamics and optimising public services.
At the same time, with the AI Act, the European Union has established an ambitious regulatory framework, aimed at supervising the development and adoption of AI.
In this context, FEDIL has published its position on the update of the national AI strategy, identifying the essential levers to maximise opportunities and meet future challenges. FEDIL believes that updating the country's AI strategy must be based on several key pillars:
- A pragmatic transposition of the AI Act, with proportionate regulation and constructive dialogue with economic stakeholders.
- Accelerating the adoption of AI in businesses and the public sector to maximize competitiveness and efficiency.
- Developing skills to anticipate impacts on the labour market and strengthen local expertise.
- Strengthening digital and energy infrastructure, essential to the development of AI.
- Competitive access to electricity, a key condition for attracting and retaining digital companies.
- Increased support for RDI, particularly for startups and SMEs, to stimulate innovation.
