On Thursday 15 September 2022, the trade union representing staff who work in the banking sector across the Grand Duchy, ALEBA (Association Luxembourgeoise des Employés de Banque et d'Assurance), issued a statement concerning the inflation and its position regarding wage indexation.
According to ALEBA, bilateral meetings have taken place in recent days between the government, employers and certain social partners, with a view to negotiations during the future tripartite meeting to be held from 18 to 20 September 2022.
In the context of galloping inflation, ALEBA is looking forward to lasting decisions in order to help households effectively against the loss of purchasing power.
ALEBA is of the opinion that a new indexation in 2022 seems essential, but perhaps it is high time to work on a reform of the Index itself, even if only temporarily, in order to prevent any new freezing, especially for those who do not it need anymore.
ALEBA maintains that the index should be staggered rather than frozen or delayed, by adapting it to the different salary brackets. which will guarantee for all, a correct purchasing power on at least essential expenses.
