The OGBL trade union has announced that Luxembourg catering company Eurest, which is part of the Compass Group, is set to cut around 160 jobs.

On Wednesday 3 February 2021, the management of Eurest, the company's staff delegation and the OGBL reached an agreement relating to a social plan for around 160 out of a total of 700 employees. Negotiations for this plan began on 20 January 2021.

Considered vulnerable, the catering sector has been particularly affected by the COVID-19 health crisis. The OGBL explained that the closure of some establishments, health restrictions and mass teleworking have had a considerable impact on the sector and a rapid return to normal activity is not to be expected in the coming months.

The negotiated agreement, which also includes a job retention component to limit redundancies, provides for extra-legal indemnities in the event of dismissal as well as a budget for training and / or the professional reorientation of the employees concerned.

Measures relating to job retention (early retirement-adjustment, voluntary reduction of working time, internal mobility) will now be implemented over a four-week period. Layoffs are expected to start from 1 March 2021.
