Luxembourg trade union the OGBL released a statement yesterday urging Prime Minister Xavier Bettel to convene a meeting of the tripartite committee on the deconfinement strategy in the near future.

In the context of Luxembourg's COVID-19 lockdown exit strategy, the first phase of which is already underway, the OGBL has insisted on being fully included in recovery discussions and has called for an urgent meeting of the tripartite committee to address several uncertainties that remain around the general strategy for ending the crisis.

Luxembourg's tripartite committee was created in the 1970s as a crisis instrument. The OGBL stated that it considers this committee as the most appropriate place for social partners to discuss measures for economic recovery as well as job protection as part of the strategy to end the crisis.

The OGBL confirmed that it recently had an exchange of views with Economy Minister Franz Fayot, particularly on the subject of the current situation in the various economic sectors as well as concerning the priority measures with a view to economic recovery.

The union has also requested an emergency meeting with Minister of Labour Dan Kersch to discuss the difficulties which several workers continue to face in the context of the ongoing health crisis and its aftermath. During this interview, the OGBL will also address the issue of vulnerable people and other questions related to the preventive measures to be taken in the context of the gradual recovery in the various sectors of economic activity.
