The Orientation Day of the Welcome and Integration Contract (Contrat d’accueil et d’intégration - CAI) took place on Saturday 23 April 2022 for the fourth time in virtual form.
More than 600 signatories of the CAI registered for the event, which was organised by the Department of Integration of the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration and the Greater Region. During the Orientation Day, participants had the opportunity to learn more about administrative procedures, the country's institutions and community life in Luxembourg.
In her welcome address, the Minister for Family Affairs and Integration, Corinne Cahen, highlighted the importance of living together for Luxembourg. "Almost 50% of the population does not have Luxembourg nationality and more than 200,000 cross-border workers come to the Grand Duchy every day to work. I would like to thank you for signing the Welcome and Integration Contract and for your interest in living together, in culture, in sport, in associations, in Luxemburg."
On 24 virtual stands, representatives of different ministries, administrations and associations in Luxembourg were present to answer the signatories' questions on integration topics, such as political participation and associations, further education, recognition of diplomas or culture.
In the virtual workshops, participants could choose from twelve different topics, such as nationality, language practice, entrepreneurship or housing. In addition, they had the opportunity to exchange views in a virtual forum (the 'Networking Lounge') on daily life activities and living together in Luxembourg.
The Welcome and Integration Contract (CAI)
The CAI is an optional integration programme for all non-Luxembourgish residents, which allows its signatories to discover Luxembourg, its languages, its customs and its institutions through language training, civic education courses and an Orientation Day.
