A special ICT Spring Hack4Kids edition was held by SECURITYMADEIN.LU and KPMG on Saturday 7 May 2016, bringing together fifty 7-12 year olds.
Various Hack4Kids workshops made a reappearance for the event. Examples included:
- The Scratch Coding workshop, enabling children to creatively use software programming developed by MIT based on an exercise creating a Whac-a-Mole game. A novelty for this wear was a challenge set to an advanced group involving creatin a connected banana, a tool that is now added to the long list of the Internet of Thigs.
- A Networking Game workshop, a dynamic game teaching children how Internet-based TCP/IP protocol works, some basic commands of network engineering, how TOR works and what network attacks mean.
- A drones workshop, wherein the children learned how to manipulate drones through programming language.
- A Data Privacy workshop developed amd facilitated by KPMG, helping children to understand the new personal data issues in Big Data.
- A light-painting workshop, a playful and creative photographic shooting technique allowing children to paint with light.
"Throughout the afternoon, the children were encouraged to discover and create with daily technologies," commented Matthieu Farcot of SECURITYMADEIN.LU. "It was about allowing them to understand the key elements of technology through fun modules adapted to their levels. The connected banana challenge exemplifies this spirit. Discovering, learning, and especially having fun."
