Luxembourg hosted the Eurogroup and Economic and Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN) meetings earlier this week.

Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, was among the ministers participating in these meetings at the European Convention Center Luxembourg (ECCL) in Kirchberg on Monday 7 and Tuesday 8 October 2024.

During the Eurogroup meeting on Monday, held in open format, ministers discussed European competitiveness, the digital euro, the Capital Markets Union and the preparation of the October Euro Summit. The Eurogroup prepared the upcoming meetings of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the G20, which will take place in the special context of the 80th anniversary of the Bretton Woods Conference.

In the framework of the ECOFIN meeting on Tuesday, the 27 ministers discussed the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), which will end in 2026, the economic and financial impact of Russia's aggression against Ukraine, and lessons learned from the 2024 European Semester. In addition, the Council approved the conclusions on climate finance in view of the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP29, which will take place from 11 to 22 November in Baku, Azerbaijan.

On the sidelines of these meetings, Minister Roth met his Irish and Croatian counterparts, Jack Chambers and Marko Primorac.
